February 17th, 2010

Nothing is better then hanging out with friends, and enjoying a big hockey game like last nights. The only real downfall to that is that you often miss the little things, and don't have that close up analysis of the game as if you were to watch it alone. Good times all around though. Thankfully we were hit with a big snowstorm and school was cancelled, it would have been a walking zombie; I'm not a night owl at all, haha.

USA over Switzerland 3-1
I was cheering for Switzerland for 2 reasons. A they were playing the rival States, and B they were the underdog. It would have been awesome to see them win. It was still nice to see the Swiss play as well as they did. Their short little passes throughout the game were unreal! There give and go's were impressive, and overall their entire game was decent. Bobby Ryan's goal to open things up was a beaut and a little heart sinking. Backes and Tampa's Ryan Malone scored USA's 2nd and 3rd goals in the 2nd. They were held goalless in the third and Roman Wick of team Switzerland scored 9:45 into the 3rd, giving us a ray of hope. It turned out to be a little to late.

Canada over Norway 8-0
A friend texted me commenting on how well the Norwegians were actually playing. That was true, but I said that once the Canadians were able to one or two in, the floodgates would be released. It feels nice to call things, even though half the population would have said the same thing. After a scoreless 1st period (the shots were 14-4 mind me) the Canadians stormed out and potted 3 in the 2nd. Jarome Iginla, Dany Heatley and Mike Richards being the contributors. Then they were able to put 5 more in the 3rd, Ryan Getzlaf scored an assist going to Toews, Heatley put another one in, Corey Perry did too, and Iginla gave himself a hatty, scoring twice in the 3rd frame. All eyes were on Sidney Crosby, and he did not disappoint, having a 3 point night. A satisfying win to say the least.

Russia over Latvia 8-2
If I was on Latvia, I wouldn't be ashamed of saying that I lost to Russia 8-2. I though the score would be even more lopsided, I mean Russia is like an All-Star team and Latvia is like an AHL team. Snipers Alex Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin each had a deauce and New Jerseys's Ilya Kovalchuk also had one. KHL'er Danis Zaripov opend the scoring 2 and a half minutes into the game. Both Latvia's goals came in the third, coming from 5'10", 185 pounder Herbets Vasilijevs and lefty Gints Ankipas.

I've stopped trying to be unbiased, because well Canada is awesome. Can't wait to see more Olympic hockey, 3 games are taking place today. Jay Onrait is having a hall-of fame performance right now on Olympic Morning. He is just absolutely hilarious right now, and just way to hyped up. I'll hopefully have another post today, with a combined Olympic team.

All my Best; Enjoy Life
Ryan Francis
