February 6th, 2010

Five games took place last night, I was unable see any. Highlights for the win I suppose. The game that obviously took the most interest in really any hockey fan was the Toronto/New Jersey game. And is it just me, or have I already talked way to much about the Leafs on this?

Toronto was unable to hold the lead, and New Jersey was able to come from the game with 2 points. It's always a bummer to lose a game with 18 seconds left. The Monster seemed a little shaken after getting a knee into the head, but says he is completely fine. Ilya Kovalchuk was able to pick up 2 assists in his debut, not bad. Also had a shady penalty. Richard Wallin picked up a beautiful, oh so dusty goal, his first in a TO uni and also first NHL goal in I believe 6 years. Atta be.

The Washing Capitals got the 5-2 win over the new looking Thrashers, despite being out shot by 13. Ovechkin scored a beaut, giving him 82 points on the season. With this win, the Caps continue their winning streak, putting them at 13 now. Newly acquired Johnny Odulya didn't do too much, going -1 but played 20:38 minutes of the game. Bergfors also went pointless but had 4 shots on 12:53 minutes of ice time.

Calgary visited the Sunny State, where Jarome Iginla played his 1,000th game. Jay Bouwmeetser also made his first return to his old club. The crowd didn't seem to appreciate it. He assisted a goal by Ales Kotalik and played nearly half the game. Shots on goal were a little uneven, the Flames had 40 where as the Panthers had only 13. Mark Giordano continued his fantastic season scoring his 9th goal of the year on the powerplay. Ian White assisted on it, giving him his first point as a Flame. Bottom line, Calgary won which seems to get increasingly rare.

Other games:
Carolina over Buffalo 4-3. Ryan Miller let in a very weak goal near the end, giving the Canes the win.
Phoenix over Chicago 2-1 in the shootout. Jonathan Toews scored an unreal goal, Youtube it when you find the time.

Brock Trotter has been called up by the Montreal Canadiens. He has been playing very well with the Hamilton Bulldogs this season and this is greatly deserved. He will make his debut hopefully today when the Habs take on the Pittsburgh Penguins. Best of luck to him.

Then there is the sad news. Brendan Burke at 21-years-old died in a car accident yesterday. He is the son of GM Brian Burke. It is never fair to see someone this young leave like this. Condolences to the entire Burke family.

All my Best; Enjoy Life
Ryan Francis
